On Tuesdays our schedule is the following..... 1:15-2:15 Loose Parts Play Children enjoy the space and freedom provided by nature to explore the outdoors and play with friends under the big pine trees. 2:10 Clean up and walk back to classroom 2:15-2:25 Peace Time The children learn how to calm their bodies by listening to soothing music while doing deep breathing exercises. 2:25-2:35 Yoga We believe that the world would be a happier, healthier place if everyone learned how to stop, breath, be present and sit in calm for a little bit each day. This philosophy is what drove our team to begin a "yoga time" each morning. Here we practice how to have calm, controlled bodies while stretching, breathing and connecting with our mind and spirit in a peaceful way. 2:35-2:45 Last Meeting We review our day and sing the good bye song in preparation for leaving school 2:50- All friends leave school
On Wednesdays our schedule is the following..... 1:15-1:45 Hike: For many children this is their favorite day of the week where we get to be explorers and discover knew magical places just beyond the forest walls. As we walk, we stop to point out different observations and have short group discussions about what we notice along the way. 1:50 Meeting 2:00-2:30 Work Time: Time spent in the various areas of the classroom working with friends. Areas include: the library, puzzles and games, dramatic play, art area, manipulatives, sensory table & listening center This is also a time where we work on teacher directed indoor projects 2:40-2:50 last Meeting 2:50- All friends leave school
On Thursday our schedule is the following..... 1:15-1:30 Group Game: We work on body awareness, following directions, working as a team and thinking of others all while having tons of fun outdoors! 1:30-2:20 Woods time in our outdoor classroom Structured time: This is a time where teachers tell stories, we act out stories and use our imaginations during whole group teacher led activities Free play: Children enjoy many different imaginative variations of dramatic play, climbing on fallen trees, exploring the woods, following and identifying animal tracks, finding secret spots to call their own and the list goes on..... Stations: Teachers call children over in small groups to work on specific skills, activities and projects. 2:20 Walk back to classroom 2:20-2:40 Peace time and yoga 2:40-2:50 Last meeting 2:50- All friends leave school
On Fridays our schedule is the following..... 1:15-1:30 Game 1:30-2:00 Playground 2:00 Walk back to classroom 2:05-2:20 Peace time and yoga 2:20 Literacy lesson on the rug (preparation for journal time): We gather on the rug as a class while the teacher gives a lesson on the journal topic of that day. The topic for journal is carefully chosen by the teacher with the interests of the children in mind. This lesson includes modeling how to draw with detail and purpose while using a proper pencil grip. Teachers also talk about letters, their sounds, and putting letters together to form words. 2:20-2:40 Journal: Teachers work with children to execute their thoughts on paper while practicing how to write and identify their name, write words and add detail to their drawings. Teachers identify where a child is in their learning and help foster this while expanding their thinking and skills. 2:40-2:50 last Meeting 2:50- All friends leave school
